Materials we use
We primarily fabricate in the materials listed below. Atlas Plastics are capable of fabricating a wide range of plastic materials and there are many processes available in house.
Acrylic
Acrylic is a rigid, transparent, thermoplastic material. Naturally colourless and exceptionally clear, it can be pigmented to obtain a wide range of tints and colours with almost unlimited scope in varying light transmission and diffusion.
Polycarbonate
Polycarbonate is the toughest transparent plastic available. The impact resistance of Polycarbonate is 15 - 20 times higher than that of Acrylic sheet, making it ideal for machine guarding and safety items like helmets and eye protection.
Polypropylene
Polypropylene provides excellent resistance to organic solvents, degreasing agents and electrolytic attack. It is light in weight, resistant to staining, and has a low moisture absorption rate.
Foam PVC
Foam PVC sheet is ideal for use in exhibitions and displays, particularly when portability is an important factor. It is lightweight and ideal for printing and signage.
PETG
PETG is a cost effective transparent sheet combining a number of important characteristics, particularly high impact strength, optical properties and excellent fabricating performance.
Processes available in house
All of our products are manufactured at our plastic fabrication facility in Leigh by a team of trained and experienced professionals. We make use of the latest technology, and our tested production techniques guarantee incredible results every time.
Laser Cutting
Our 3x2 metre laser cuts and etches up to 20mm Acrylic with a polished edge. Also capable of cutting paper, card, MDF, wood.
CNC Routing
We have two 3x2 metre Multicam CNC Routers capable of machining up to approximately 80mm thickness.
Line Bending
Our two line benders are capable of bending plastic of up to 15mm thickness and lengths of up to 2500mm.
Bonding & UV Bonding
We bond plastics using a variety of adhesives including UV, Solvents and two-part polymerization cements.
Welding
We weld a variety of materials including PP, PC, PETG, PVC and PE. Hot air, Fusion, Extrusion and Ultrasonic welding.
Drape Forming
Utilising our 3x2 metre oven we can form plastic materials over a forming jig, ideal for thick acrylic used in aquariums.
Flame Polishing
We can polish profiles from the CNC Router or cut panels from the saw using a flame polisher to give a gloss edge.
Diamond Polishing
We can polish the edges of acrylic, PETG and PC sheets up to a maximum of 50mm thickness with a crystal clear finish.
Annealing
Utilising our oven we can normalise plastics up to 3 metres long, 2 metres wide and 2 metres tall.
